Greyhound Racing – A Cowardly, Sickening “Business”

There seems to be no end to all the buffoons in the Greyhound racing industry.

It seems the national group I belong to, Greyhound Pets of America, have requested I pull any reference to them from this blog after complaints from pro racing assho…I mean advocates complained to them that I have anti racing sentiment on my blog (DUH)…and that I “liked” an organization called Grey2K, a well known anti racing group. As explained in a previous post, “liking” someone or something does not necessarily mean you agree on everything,  maybe just that they are of the same philosophy. This, however, only serves to fire me up and make me even more dedicated to the cause at hand. You are grasping at straws and running scared because you know it’s just a matter of time. Tracks continue to close and soon you will have to do something besides live and profit off of the suffering and deprivation of these gorgeous creatures.

In any event, I AM ANTI RACING and I HAVE pulled any reference to GPA from this blog.

The “mind-spin” of those involved with greyhound race tracks is truly demented.  It’s hard to comprehend the horrors of this industry. You could say that pit bull fighting pales in comparison – from the stand point of at least it’s illegal and at least it is not billed as “family entertainment”, which greyhound racing is. While at the track and being “trained” Greyhounds are routinely fed 4D (dead, diseased, decayed, dying) meat, bought only God knows where, and which, in some cases even been other dead dogs. This stuff is so vile, that while feeding this poison to the dogs, they (the trainers or whomever is doing the feeding) wear a version of a hazmat suit because they know the stuff is full of e-coli and salmonella and chemicals. Then, when the hounds start to suffer from malnutrition caused by the incredibly poor quality of their diet, and their red blood cells have been so destroyed that they cannot fuel their muscles, they then drug them up with performance hormones…..AND when they still cannot perform, they kill them. Many greyhounds never see their third birthday. Wonder why so many retired racers suffer from cancer, the only common factor involved is the disgusting filth they are fed.

Then, there are training and race conditions of the tracks, those connected to racetracks are totally aware of the dangers for the dogs and have ALL seen the resulting injuries and even deaths because of bad tracks. Just look at the dogs up for adoption, one out of every 4 or 5  have or has had broken legs, feet or ankles, toe injuries…etc  and most have multiple scars from old injuries, skin conditions, bad teeth and on and on.

It is unforgivable ! How can anyone even TRY to defend this blood sport? It attracts the outer fringe of society who care nothing for the actual welfare of the dogs, the dogs are there just to entertain them..if they get hurt or killed, they don’t care, it’s all just part of doing business, another day at the track.

What a cowardly, sickening “business” to associate your name to.

  1. WELL SAID!!! Thank You for helping to get the message out there about the TRUTH behind greyhound racing. When does any animal benefit from being used in an Industry?—NEVER!!!

Greyhound racing is cruel and inhumane. Greyhounds endure lives of nearly constant confinement, kept in cages barely large enough for them to stand up or turn around. While racing, many dogs suffer and die from injuries including broken legs, paralysis, and cardiac arrest. And many greyhounds are euthanized every year, as the number retired from racing exceeds the number of adoptive homes.

At racetracks across the country, greyhounds endure lives of confinement. According to industry statements, greyhounds are generally confined in their cages for approximately 20 hours per day. They live inside warehouse-style kennels in stacked cages that are barely large enough to stand up or turn around. Generally, shredded paper or carpet remnants are used as bedding.

An undercover video recently released by GREY2K USA shows the conditions in which these gentle dogs are forced to live: http://www.grey2kusa.org/azVideo.html

Dogs play an important role in our lives and deserve to be protected from industries and individuals that do them harm.
