Hi Patricia

I'm so very sorry to hear that. I don't know what groups you are referring to, but you're right, no one deserves to be treated that way, no matter what the circumstances are. Sometimes things in life happen, through no fault of our own, and we must make very very tough choices.
I understand your bitterness and do not blame you for feeling the way you do, but please understand, there are some very good groups out there...

This is off the subject somewhat but my husband and I have been members of two rescue groups and we will NEVER do it again EVER. We found the "higher" members ( of so they feel they are) to open us at first then when my daughter got cancer and we had financial trouble we were talked about and called horrible things. My husband and I spent thousands of hours helping bring dogs to the groups and raising money. When we were at our lowest nobody really cared we were trying to give the dogs we loved, but could no longer afford, the life they deserved a better life. We found them to be an elitist group who really use events as social events. My husband and I were heartbroken having to surrender our dogs. I will never raise another penny for these groups. I love the dogs but we don't deserve what was done to us.

As far as not saying what really happens to the dogs those who do are treated the same way we were. Shunned

Hi Steve! Let's also not forget that many of the dogs from Florida are used as LIVE shark bait! Other have their ears cut off and are released in the streets so that the owners can't be identified. The Greyhounds have a very high tolerance for pain and are used in many labs for medical testing or have their legs beaten with a hammer just to see how much they will tolerate. It's disgusting what happens to these dogs.

Even the dogs who are rescued from the track have a hard road to health ahead of them. Their bones are brittle from the steroids. Many have an enlarged heart from the steroids as well.

They are the most loving, docile animal I've ever known! All they want is to be loved...and to sleep. :)

I'm glad to see you are speaking your mind! We had our dogs just prior to the days of internet (early 90s). When I got my first computer (in college) I looked up many Greyhound groups and was shunned because the different rescue groups don't like each other. We adopted our first two through GPA and apparently ReGAP isn't a fan of GPA. I kind of turned my back on it all. Then when this little boy running loose came into my life, it has brought back all the memories of our Greyts.

Hello

Hilary, I respect your opinion, I do not however, like your choice of words, that I "ran" away.
That is a somewhat antagonistic choice of words.
I decided to leave as I do not have the time to deal with people who made their point clear on how they feel.
It is not whether someone agrees or disagrees with me, it is all about what is the best avenue for me to take
and it is not being with a group that gives excuses that they have to kiss this particulars tracks ass so as not to be
cut off from their dogs, to me that is absolutely a cop out. I live in Illinois and we get our dogs from Florida.
I'm so sorry that you feel that this group must sell their soul to the devil to enable them to get local dogs.

Censorship and respect are not mutually inclusive, you can be involved in one without the other, but I do not now, or will I ever agree
with the philosophy of this group, I stated my feelings of what I think in my post and I stand by it. If there was a lack of respect, it is for the person
who thinks they can tell me what is or is not good for people to see. Do you watch Animal Planet, Animal Cops, any nature show, do they
only show the rosy side of things...of course not, and so anyone that tells me a post is too negative for that group and tries to censor what I do,
even go so far as to tell me what I should or should not put in MY BLOG, well, I do not have the time to waste arguing with someone so narrow minded and obviously afraid that anything negative will endanger the sleeping arrangements between the group and the breeder and the track.

I stand strong to my main points of the article:

They all say they will not be able to help any more dogs if they tell what they know or they do not want to make the track where they get their dogs upset, that if they did, the track would "hold the dogs hostage"...how totally absurd is that. I know of several high-profile adoption groups, for example Greyhound Rescue of Idaho, who have spoken out against dog racing and still receive hundreds of dogs to adopt out. Those greyhound "rescue groups" who see the cruelty this industry perpetuates, and turn a blind eye to it, share much responsibility in the continuation of this cruelty. One thing comes to mind, these days it is widely recognized that people serious about pet overpopulation should be working to end it, not just maintain it.

I'm sorry we have different opinions on this as I truly appreciate all you do and have done for these beautiful animals.
Best of luck in your future endeavors....sounds like a good bye, so I'll say goodbye to you also, I wish things were different, but I feel like I feel.

Take Care

Hey Steve: I was a member of one of the Greyhound groups you're speaking of here. I'm surprised that you would run off the second someone disagreed with you. That shows a huge lack of respect for others for a guy who claims not to believe in censorship. The comments were delivered in a polite, respectful way, but you chose to run instead of considering another point of view. I'm sure sorry it turned out that way, because we love your adorable boys. Best of luck in your future endeavors.
